The software won't let me use the chord Dm7 or any m7 chords, please advise.

Thanks for the question - SongFactory can currently handle the following chord types:

Major, Minor, 2, sus4, 6, 7, maj7
(e.g. for G = G, Gm, G2, Gsus4, G6, G7, Gmaj7)

We sample all of the different chord types at different pitches and speeds to get the highest quality and most authentic sound we can. That way we capture things like real guitar strumming sounds rather than them sounding synthesised.

As a result of this, the number of samples we have to take are really high, and so we've limited the number of chord types to the list above, which we felt would be the most used.

We're hoping to expand the number of chords available in future versions of SongFactory.

I'm guessing that m7 would be a chord you'd like to see in future versions - are there any other chords in particular that you use a lot which you'd like to be able to use?

Hi James, Yes Dm7 would be really urgent in the next version as it is very popular with song writers and I am working on a project in SongFactory right now that could use it. Also Dsus2 would be good too. Do you think Dm7 will come soon? Many thanks, Andy.

Hi Andy, Thanks for your thoughts - I'm building a list of features we'd like to have in the next version and I'll add this to the list.

We haven't started work on version 2 yet, and so I expect it won't be ready until next year at the earliest.

Sorry it's a bit of a wait, and thanks for your feedback - it's much appreciated.

Thanks for the update James, I am really enjoying working with SongFactory, it sounds professional, is easy to use and is helping me get my song ideas together. If I get any more ideas for features I'll let you know

Thanks Andy - glad you're enjoying using it

Hi James, I just had a thought, seem to be making a stir for song creators at the moment, they might be able to plug your app for budding artists, might be worth contacting them... just a thought

Hopefully this feedback will be seen, I know this thread is old but I figured I'd post here rather than make a new one.

I myself would like to see all chord types supported, as I would likely be using this software for Jazz improvisation and comping practice. Once your software supports a wider range of chords and includes a jazz band setup, I am willing to bed a lot of folks will jump on it.

I know that I would definitely suggest it to all of my students if it at least supported more chord types.

Other than that, what is already included is great!

Hi John,

Thanks for the feedback - I've put it into our list of requests, and we appreciate your comments.

As I mentioned above, adding extra chords to a sample is a huge challenge for us, but one we'll certainly look at!
